Last night was supposed to be the last night of the regular season but with the influx of rain and inclement conditions this year the BVB has been forced into rescheduling a record 12 games before the playoffs. At this point in time their is only one team, the Red Sox, who finished the regular season thus escaping mother nature, but then there is the Yankees who had a record 7 games postponed and now have a tough schedule ahead.
What we know right now is the Cardinals and Mud Hens are fighting for the one and two positions in the standings while the Red Sox are in the number 3 spot. The Hobos and Yankees will duke it out for the final Vintage playoff spot, while the unfortunate losing team will be relegated to battle for the Legends title with the likes of the Marauders, Giants, X-Men and Cubs.
The playoffs start on Tuesday September 2nd. Check out the BVB website for the playoff schedule.

The Burlington Black 49ers were looking to retain their CNOBF championship but they would have to defeat a tough Tillsonburg team... and that is what they did. The Black 49ers defeated the team from Tillsonburg 5 - 4 to retain the National title for a 2nd year.
The 49ers opened the scoring with single runs in the 1st and 2nd innings and extended their lead to 5 - 0 with a 3 run 5th. The Old Sox weren't about to rollover and put up a quick 4 runs in the top half of the 6th before Mike Bennett doused the Sox fire. The Old Sox got the lead off hitter on in the 7th, but once again Bennett closed the door earning the save thus earning the Black 49ers the Championship.
The Black 49ers are the 4th team to earn 'Back to Back' championshisp and join the impressive club that includes the Oakville A's (1993 & 1994), the Calgary Cardinals (1995 & 1996) and the Tillsonburg Old Sox (2003 & 2004). The Black 49ers will look to be the 1st team to win 3 straight titles when they travel to Tracadie-Sheila, New Brunswick next season.
In the 50+ Chanpionship finals the Burlington Silver 49ers fell short in their attempt to win in their first try as they were beaten 9 - 3 by the BC Capitals. The Capitals were last year's finalist who eventually lost to the host Red Deer Vision Air Snowbirds. The Silver team displayed a great deal of class the entire tournament and kudos go out to Terry Wilkinson and his team.
There were two other teams that participated this weekend, the 35+ Blue's lead by Jason Riesberry and the 44+ Grey's lead by Jim Hambrook. Both teams again showed the other teams in this tourney that there is great baseball played by great players in Burlington Vintage Baseball. The 35+ Blue's and 44+ Grey's both lost out in the Quarter Finals to Tillsonburg and Oakville respectively.
Again, this weekends results show all BVB members and all other baseball organizations that Burlington Vintage Baseball is truly a place where quality baseball is being played.
Congratulations to all BVB participants.

Mother Nature is at it again. With this summer being dubbed the wettest since the early1980's, the wet conditions have wreaked havoc on the BVB scheduler Jay Hodgson. Last week there were 3 rainouts bringing the league total for this season to 10 games.
The league schedule has been updated, so team, check it out to see where you play. Please also note that the Red Sox / Yankees game scheduled for Sunday night at Nelson has been moved to Ireland, while the Hobos / Cardinals game has been moved over to Nelson to coincide with the continuation of a game played earlier this season that was suspended. The suspended game begins at 4:00pm at Nelson.
ATTENTION BVB NATIONAL TEAM PLAYERS - There is a meeting on Monday July 28th at 7:00pm at the Navy Club. Please make sure you attend.

The Second Annual BVB Golf Tournament was held this past Saturday at Indian Wells Golf Club. While the weather was not the greatest, the camaraderie and good times between all participants sure was good sight. A team consisting of Cardinal players Steve Mahar and Jeff Gilleland, along with two touring professionals, defended their title proudly with a score of ten under par.
New this year was a “long drive with a baseball bat” along with tournament mainstays Longest Drive and closest to the pin. Local Nickel Brook Brewery also had a Closest to the Keg competition. Thank you to all tournament sponsors and of course the golf volunteers: Jim Harrow and Jason McKenna on the 5th hole and manning the putting the competition, as well as Craig and Andrea Carroll for their support at the 13th hole. A special thank you goes out to Gord Harris and Tim Barnes for their efforts with getting our sponsors, and of course to Terry Wilkinson for all his efforts. The Silent Auction again was huge success, thank you very much to Lee Mackey, Gord Harris, Walter Lutz and Mike Bennett.
For all those that participated, I trust you all had a great time and hope to see you next year!! For all those that were not able to attend, hope to see you next year as well, this truly is a showcase event for you and your league.

Two of the BVB National teams took part in tournaments the last few weeks and both did extremely well. Two weekends ago the 44+ Grey 49ers lead by Manager Jim Hambrook took his team down to Welland for the 45+ Provincials and came away with a 3 and 0 round robin record. In the Championship finals, the Grey's took on their closet geographical rivals the Oakville A's and after a valiant effort the Grey's fell to the A's by a score of 9 - 4 thus finishing runners up in the tournament.
This past weekend, the 35+ Black 49ers participated in Niagara Falls in the Chippawa Tournament that featured teams from Tillsonburg, Dufferin-Simcoe and Hamilton. The Black's defeated Tillsonburg and Hamilton to start the tourney 2 - 0 but hit a minor speed bump when they were defeated by Dufferin-Simcoe in their 3rd game. The loss caused a 3 way tie with Dufferin-Simcoe and Tillsonburg with the 3 teams finishing 2 and 1, but Tillsonburg was on the outside looking in as they lost the tie breaker with the most runs scored against setting up a rematch with Dufferin-Simcoe. In the championship game the Black's took control early and hung on for a 9 - 5 win to claim the Chippawa title.
Next up for the National program are exhibition games on Friday July 11th when the 50+ Silver 49ers take on the 44+ Grey 49ers at 6:00pm and at 8:30pm the 35+ Blue 49ers take on the 35+ Black 49ers. Both games are at Nelson Park. These games will be a great test for all 4 teams, allowing each team manager to see all players in action

The four teams will be led by The 2007 Canadian champion “Black 49ers” who will set out to defend their National title, the Blue 49ers will look to make themselves Champions as B.V.B. sends not one but two very competitive teams in the highly regarde,d hotly contested battle to claim the “Roy Boudreau Memorial Trophy” symbolic of Canadian Vintage supremecy.

B.V.B once again you have risen to the occasion!

The B.V.B 49er “nickname” was tagged in honor of Former B.V.B Player Paul Depodesta, Paul proudly wore #49 while he played in 3 National tournaments and was a member of the HOBOS until his sad passing in 2005.
As the 35 Black 49ers set out to defend there National Title they will be joined by The 35 Blue 49ers, the 44 Tier 2 Champion Grey 49ers and the 50 Silver 49ers.
