BVB getting ready to host Annual General Meeting
The BVB Executive held one last meeting this past week in preparation for next weeks AGM and on the topic sheet will be the voting of members for the 2006 BVB Executive.  This meeting is open to all BVB members and it is encouraged that all members attend.  The BVB Executive will look different next season as Director of Umpires Ed Shaw has announced his retirement.  Ed has been involved in baseball for what he says "As long as I can remember".  The BVB appreciates the past 2 years he has served on the Executive and wishes him many great golf scores in his future.

BVB hand out awards
Lutz CupThe BVB handed out the hardware this past Friday at their annual season ending party that was held at Great Lakes Grille in Burlington.  Pictured to the left is league President Jim Hambrook (center) and Hobos coach Casey Cosgrove (left) presenting Walter Lutz with a trophy in his honor for the years of dedication to the game of baseball.  The Lutz Cup as it will be known will be presented to the team that finishes 1st in the Regular Season standings.  For the 2005 season the Hobos took the Lutz Cup with a 16 and 4 regular season record finishing 1.5 games ahead of the Red Sox.  In what was a great evening more than 100 BVB players and family members attended the event.  The league also handed out team Most Valuable Player awards to each team: Jeff Gilleland - Cardinals, Derek Vanesse - Cubs, Colin Lalonde - Hobos, Jason Saker - Indians, Craig Carroll - Pirates, Mark Caron - Red Sox, J.K. Kim - Tigers, Dave Millar - X-Men, Jamie MacIntyre - Yankees.  The 2004 and 2005 Home Run champions were also acknowledged on this evening.  Colin Lalonde of the Hobos was awarded the 2004 Home Run title after he had hit 8 dingers, while the 2005 Home Run champion was Red Sox hitter Mark Caron whom hit 6 out of the yard.

The BVB AGM was also announced and will take place on November 9th at 7:00 pm and held in the Lake Michigan Room at Great Lakes Grille.

Hobos win Vintage Cup Championship
The Red Sox battled the Hobos, but it was just the Hobos time. The Hobos won the Vintage Cup Championship by defeating the Red Sox 7 - 3. The Hobos took advantage of the 1st inning once again by scoring 3 runs to take an early 3 - 0 lead. In every game of the series the Hobos scored runs to get a jump on the Sox. The Hobos have been on a mission this season after losing longtime friend and teammate Paul Depodesta early this spring and they dedicated this championship season to their departed friend. This is also the 3 Vintage title in 6 years for the Hobos who also took the title in 2000 and 2002. Congrats to Jim Hambrook and the rest of the Hobos.

Trophy

Jim Hambrook accepts the trophy from BVB VP of Operations Walter Lutz while the Hobos look on.

Hobos Champs

X-Men win Legends Cup Championship
The X-Men swept their way to the Legends Cup Championship with a decisive 10 - 1 win over the Tigers.  This is the 1st title for the X-men who have been in the BVB since 2001.  Congrats to Bill Ridley and the rest of the X-Men staff.
The Hobos and the Red Sox faced off in the pivotal 3rd game of their final and in true fashion the game was one for the BVB ages as the Hobos held on for a 5 - 4 win to take a 2 - 1 lead in the Vintage Cup Championship.  The Hobos look to put the series away this Tuesday when they and the Red Sox play Game 4 at Nelson with the game time being 7:00pm.  The Sox look to stave off elimination and force a Game 5 this Friday.

X-Men Champs

X-Men one win away from Cup
The X-Men are one win away from the Legends Cup as they defeated the Tigers by default 7 - 0.  In what could only be called 'Lack of Respect to the BVB', the Tigers have for the 3rd time this season forfeited a game.  Not pulling any punches here, but this scribe thinks that any one of the 3 teams that are not playing right now would put up a better effort in what is truly the best part of baseball season 'the Playoffs'.  If the Tigers show up, Game 3 takes place on Sunday at 4:00pm at Nelson Park.
In the Vintage Cup Final, the Hobos evened the series with the Red Sox by tearing holes in the Sox in a 15 - 0 victory.  All evening long the Hobos were able to hit the holes and take advantage of some very poor Red Sox defense.  The pivotal Game 3 takes place on Sunday at 7:00pm at Nelson Park.

Red Sox comeback to beat Hobos in Game 1
The Red Sox and Hobos took part in a tight battle that was eventually won by the Sox 6 - 4.  The Hobos took advantage of some spotty Red Sox defense in the 1st inning.  The Hobos scored 2 runs before Mike Bennett stepped to the plate and deposited a 2 run blast over the fence in right field to give the BO's a 4 run lead.  The Red Sox pulled the score to 4 -1 before scoring 4 runs in the top of the 4th to take a 5 - 4 lead.  The Red Sox would score an insurance run in the top of the 7th to take a 2 run lead going into the Hobos last at bats.  Red Sox closer Darcy Osipenko was able to retire the Hobos to preserve the victory.  This battle continues Friday at Nelson Park at 7:00pm while the X-Men face the Tigers in the Legends Cup Championship at Millcroft Park for a 7:00pm start.

X-Men take Game 1 in convincing fashion
The X-Men simply had the tiger by the tail all evening and swung their bats as easily as swinging the Tigers in a 15 - 0 shellacking.  The Tigers just couldn't get it together tonight both offensively and defensively, while the X-Men pounded the ball and made all the plays on defense.  Game 2 of this series will take place at Millcroft 'B' at 7:00pm.

The Finals are set
The Tigers were awaiting an opponent, now they have one in the X-Men.  The X-Men won the right to take on the Tigers with a 8 - 7 win over the Cubs in Game 5 of their Legend Cup Semi-Final.  The Legend Cup Championship begin tonight at Nelson Park at 7:00pm.  In the Vintage Cup Semi-Finals, the Hobos escaped a tight series with the pesky Pirates by squeaking out a 6 - 5 victory.  The Hobos once trailed by a 4 - 3 scored but pulled it out in the later innings.  The Hobos will now face the Red Sox whom defeated the Yankees 13 - 5 to win their Best of 5 Semi-Final.  Eric Milne sparked the Red Sox with a 3 run homer to give the Sox a 3 -1 lead that they would never relinquish.  The Vintage Cup Championship will begin Wednesday September 21st at 7:00pm at Nelson Park.

Tigers close it out, while Yanks live for another day
The Tigers advanced on the strength of 8 runs in the first 2 innings on their way to a 12 - 6 win over the Indians.  The win closed out their Best of 5 Semi-Final with the Tigers taking it in 4 games.  The loss closed out a successful season for the Indians who won quite a few more games than they had in the past 2 seasons.  The Tigers now await a winner of the Cubs / X-Men series which will be settled tonight as the two teams battle it out at Ireland 'C' at 7:00pm.  The Yankees scored a 6 - 2 win over the Red Sox to even their Best of 5 series.  The Yanks scored 3 unearned runs in the 2nd inning and didn't look back as they held the Sox to 8 hits over the 7 innings.  Dave Maunder swatted a home run in a losing cause for the Sox.  The Red Sox and Yankees will battle in Game 5 tonight at Millcroft 'C', while their division rival Pirates and Hobos also battle tonight in Game 5 at Nelson Park at 7:00pm.

The Legend Cup Championship starts Tuesday September 20th at Nelson at 7:00pm and the Vintage Cup Championship begins Wednesday September 21st at Nelson at 7:00pm.  The Championship schedule has been added to the Website.  Click here to view the updated schedule.

Rain causes cancellations...  again
Rain has washed out BVB Playoff games for tonight.  Both Games have been rescheduled for Monday September 19th.  The Pirates will take on the Hobos at Nelson, while the Cubs will battle the X-Men at Ireland 'C'.  Both games are a 7:00pm start.

Rain causes cancellations
For only the 3rd time this entire season rain has played havoc with the BVB schedule.  The Games between the Red Sox and Yankees and the Tigers and Indians were cancelled tonight meaning that both Game 4's will be played on Sunday September 18, while if Game 5 is necessary, they will be played on Monday September 19.  Check the Playoff Schedule for a full update on times and parks for the playoff games.

Pirates and Cubs force Game 5
The BVB Playoffs are shaping up to go right down to the wire.  In the Vintage Cup, the Pirates came from behind to defeat the Hobos 8 - 4 to force a 5th and deciding Game 5.  The Bucs were trailing 4 - 2 in the bottom of the 5th when a 2 run double by Neil Cools-Lartigue evened the score at 4.  A few batters later and with loaded bases Craig Carroll deposited a Hobo pitch over the left field fence for a Grand Slam giving the Pirates an 8 - 4 lead they would not relinquish.  In the Legend Cup series, the Cubs have climbed back to even their series with the X-Men with a 13 - 10 win.  The Cubs were down 2 - 0, but some timely hitting has brought them back to life.  Both series will wrap up with Game 5 being played Friday September 16th at 7:00pm.  The Pirates take on the Hobos at Nelson, while the Cubs play the X-Men at Millcroft 'B'.  Tonight the Yankees and Indians look to even their semi-final series when the Yanks face the Red Sox at Nelson and the Tigers take on the Indians at Millcroft 'B'.  Both games start at 7:00pm.

All Semi-Final series at a 2 - 1 count
The BVB Playoffs are all alive and well after the Yankees, Pirates and Cubs staved off elimination by taking Game 3 of their respective series.  The Yankees pounded the Red Sox 17 - 6.  In a losing cause Darcy Osipenko and Eric Milne each hit home runs for the Sox.  The Pirates continued to chip away at the Hobos and took Game 3 by a 7 - 5 score.  Pirate Catcher Chris McCullough sealed the Bucs victory with a 2 run homer.  It was McCullough's 1st of the playoffs.  The Cubs and X-men engaged in a slugfest and the Cubs survived to play another day by squeaking out an 18 - 17 win over the X-Men.  Rob Hall hit a home run for the Cubs, while Dave Millar went yard for the X-Men.  The Tigers and Indians battled it out and the Tigers came away with the Game 3 victory with a 6 - 5 win over the Tribe.  All 4 series continue this week with the Pirates and Cubs looking to tie their Semi-Final series with the Hobos and X-Men in action this Tuesday, while the Yanks take on the Sox and the Tigers try to close out the Indians season with games being played this coming Wednesday.  Check out the Playoff Schedule to see where and when your favorite BVB team continue their quest for the Championship.

Hobos, Red Sox and X-Men take commanding 2 - 0 leads
The BVB Playoffs continued on Friday with all 8 playoff teams in action.  The Red Sox took a 2 game to nothing lead with a 12 - 6 win over the Yankees.  Darcy Osipenko's 1st inning home run put the Sox ahead in the game.  In the late game in the Vintage Cup Semi-Final, the Hobos staved off a late Pirate rally to hold on for an 8 - 6 win to take a 2 - 0 lead in their Best of 5 series.  In the Legend Cup Semi-Finals played at Millcroft, the Indians tied up their series with a 7 - 0 win over the Tigers, while the X-Men held on for an 8 - 7 win over the Cubs to go up 2 - 0.  All Semi-Final series continue Sunday with games at Nelson Park and Millcroft Park.  Game times are 4:00pm and 7:00pm.  Check the schedule above to see when your favorite BVB team is in action.

4 Teams score in bunches
The second half of the Semi-Finals were held tonight and runs were the special of the evening as 59 total runs were scored in the 2 games.  In the Vintage Semi-Final held at Nelson, the Red Sox took a 1 game to nothing lead with a 16 - 10 win over the Yankees.  The Red Sox were paced by Carmen Gassi, Jason McKenna and Mark Caron whom all hit home runs for the Sox.  In the Legend Semi-Final, the visiting Tigers defeated the Indians by a 19 - 14 score.  The Tigers also got a home run by J.K. Kim, who also retired the final 9 Indian batters.  All four Semi-Finals continue this Friday with games being held at Nelson and Millcroft Park.  Come out and catch some BVB playoff action.

Hobos and X-Men draw first blood
In the Legend Cup semi finals, the X-Men took on the Cubs in their 1st game of their Semi-Final and defeated the Cubbies in a close game 7 - 3.  The Cubbies look to tie up their series when they play Game 2 on Friday.  In the Vintage Semi-Final, the Hobos came back from 2 deficits and defeated the Pirates 9 - 5 to take Game 1 of their Semi-Final.  The Bucs had leads of 3 - 0 and 5 - 3 but just couldn't hold the lead against the Hobos.  Claude Babin hit a Homerun in a losing cause for the Pirates.  Game 2 of this Semi-Final takes place this coming Friday.

Cubs defeat never say die Cardinals
The Sudden Death Playoff game was a see-saw affair that either team could have won as each team had opportunities to put the opponent away, it just took a 6 run 6th inning by the Cubs to put the nail in the Cardinals coffin, ending their inaugural BVB season.  The 6 run 6th broke open a 8 - 8 tie after the Cards tied the game in the top of the 6th, but couldn't take any further advantage with the bases loaded and only one out.  Rob Hall and Owen Gingras each hit home runs in a winning cause, with Gingras' blast giving the Cubbies a 4 run lead that the Bears never relinquished.  The Cubbies now continue their playoff hopes with a Semi Final match-up against the defending Legends Cup champion Pirates.  The Cubs defeated the Pirates in 2003 to take the Legends title, while the Pirates returned the favor last season to take home the title.

Sudden Death Playoff game scheduled
The Sudden Death Playoff format hasn't been used in the BVB for a couple of years now, but with 9 teams, the 8th and 9th place teams will face off to determine the last entry in the Legends Cup Playoff.  This year, the Cubs and Cardinals will play to determine who will face the defending Legend Cup champion Pirates.  The Cubs are playing better ball lately winning 3 of their last 5 games while the Cardinals are winless in their last 4 games, but don't count out the Cards as they have been in most games this season.  The last time these two teams met, the Cubs defeated the Cards 18 - 8.  Come out and watch this exciting format this coming Sunday at 7:00pm at Nelson.

2005 Regular Season comes to a close
Last evening the Regular Season came to a close with the final 2 games taking place at Nelson.  In the early game the Yankees defeated the Red Sox 9 - 5 with Mike Pingle blasting a 3 run home run to spark a 6 run 5th inning to lead the Yanks to the win, while in the 2nd game of the night, the Indians held off a late comeback from the Cardinals to win 13 - 12.  Jeff Gilleland and Jay Hodgson both hit homers in a losing cause for the Cardinals.  Speaking of Home runs, this years BVB Home Run champion is Red Sox hitter Mark Caron, Caron finished the season with 6 home runs while Jeff Gilleland of the Cardianls finished the season with 5.  In total 60 home runs were hit by BVB sluggers.

Playoff match-ups set
With the wind howling and the threat of rain, the BVB were lucky to get their slate of games in before the skies were to open.  The playoff picture cleared itself out with wins by the Hobos, Red Sox, Yankees and X-Men, these teams will now go on to battle for the Vintage Cup while the Pirates, Tigers, Indians, Cubs and Cardinals will battle for the Legends Cup.  The Playoffs begin on August 28th with a Sudden Death Playoff game between the Cubs and Cardinals.

Hobos grab 1st place.
Last night the Hobos took a commanding hold of 1st place in the BVB with a convincing 8 - 2 win over the Red Sox.  The Hobos pounded out 12 hits while their pitching staff held the Sox to just 6 hits.  With the win, the Hobos lead the Sox by 1 game with only 1 game remaining and with a victory in their next game they will clinch the BVB regular season title.  In the early game on Sunday the streaking Cubs won their 3 game in their last 4 with a 6 - 5 win over the Pirates.  Owen Gingras and Garry Fullerton hit home runs in a winning effort for the Cubbies.  Next weekend is the final weekend of the BVB season with the 2005 PLAYOFFS beginning on September 6.

Race for 1st place heating up.
1st place is a three team race to this point with the Red Sox and Hobos tied percentage point wise while the Yankees are just 1 game out of the running.  Last evening the Red Sox scored in the bottom of the 7th to defeat the X-Men 8 - 7 while the Yankees beat the Tigers 7 - 6 to keep pace with the idle Hobos.  The Pirates kept their strangle hold on 4th place with a football like score beating the Cardinals 18 - 17, while the Indians jumped into 6th place with a 9 - 8 victory over the Cubs.  The BVB regular season ends in a mere 2 weeks and all teams will be jockeying for playoff  positions in the coming weeks.

BVB teams take part in the Canadian National Baseball Championships.
The BVB sent two teams to the Canadian National Baseball Championships that took place this past weekend in Tillsonburg, Ontario and although neither team took the title it was a learning experience for the members of the league that took part in a well run championship.  The league would like to thank the players and organizational staff for taking time out of their busy summer schedule to participate in this event.  The BVB looks forward to participating in the 2006 Championship to be held in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

St. Catharines defeat BVB Hobos to take Championship.
The BVB hosted the Classic this past weekend and the Hobos were there to defend their title, but unfortunately the Hobos couldn't put it all together and lost 11 - 4 to the Cardinals from St. Catherines.  The BVB would like to congratulate the Cards and all members of the BVB that took part in helping making the tournament a success.  The BVB would also like to thank Karl from Great Lake Grille for hosting the tournament party.

BVB hosts BURLINGTON VINTAGE WILSON CLASSIC tis weekend.
The BVB is hosting the Classic this weekend with 6 team entered to participate.  The league has 4 teams competing while London and St. Catharines round out the entries.  Games begin at 8:30pm at Nelson and both Millcroft diamonds with all 6 teams in action.  The games continue all day Saturday with the semis and championship going on Sunday.

Sweltering heat doesn't stop the 'Boys of Summer'.
With the temperature hovering around the 33C mark, the BVB didn't stop to beat the heat, instead 8 teams took the field to beat on each other.  In the first game at Ireland 'C', the Red Sox took on the Hobos for a chance to knock the league leaders off their perch and that they did with a 14 - 4 win over the Hobos.  The Sox were led by homers from Mark Caron and Mike Peever with Casey Cosgrove driving one out of the yard for the Hobos.  In the late game a see-saw battle was waged between the expansion Cardinals and expansion Tigers.  Eventually, the Tigers, on the strength of J.K.Kim's arm and bat took the victory 8 - 5.  The Pirates defeated the X-Men in the battle of 4th place by a score of 8 - 5.  The Pirates are mere percentage points behind the X-Men for 4th after the victory.  The Indians won their 2nd in a row and a franchise high 4th game of the season with a 6 - 4 win over the lowly Cubs.

Log jam at the top.
There is quite the log jam at the top of the BVB standings these days.  The Hobos and Yankees are tied a top the standings with the Red Sox hot on their heels just a 1/2 game back.  The Pirates and X-Men are also only 2 games behind the leaders.  Last evening made the waters a little muddier when the Pirates took matters into their own hands by defeating the powerhouse Hobos 7 - 1, while the Yankees scalped the Tribe 20 - 7 while Andy Szitas hitting his 1st homer of the season.  The Red Sox got back on track behind the 2 homerun performance by Mark Caron defeating the Tigers 12 - 3.  The last game of the evening was a tightly contested battle between the Cards and Cubs and the league veteran Cubbies took a 5 - 2 victory over the upstart Cards.

Beautiful day for Baseball, and stinking hot too.
The Tigers came out on a mission to exact a 15 - 0 loss to the Red Sox and did just that with a sound beating of the Sox 14 - 5.  The Tigers were led by shortstop J.K. Kim as he went 2 for 3 while hitting his 1st homer of the season.  Steve Hall also hit his 1st homerun in a losing cause for the Sox.  The Cubs continued their disappointing season dropping a 13 - 3 decision to the X-Men.  Cubs catcher Derek Vanesse went deep for his 2nd dinger of the young season.  The Yankees rallied from their loss on Friday with a sound 14 - 6 win over the expansion Cardinals pulling themselves back into a tie for 2nd place in the standings.  The Pirates and Indians battled in the last game of the evening and it was a tight affair with the Bucs beating the Tribe 7 - 5.

Baseball and Lightning were the theme of this Friday.
With the skies threatening and the thunder clapping, baseball took a back seat to a lightning show for at least a little while on Friday.  The early games were played in humid weather where the Tigers continued to struggle and lost their 3rd in a row with a 11 - 3 defeat at the hands of the Indians.  The win snapped a 4 game winless streak for the Indians.  The streaking Cardinals were stopped in their tracks by the up and down X-Men 7 - 4.  Jeff Gilleland stroked his first homerun in a losing cause for the Cards who now drop to 2 - 5 on the season.  Both early games were called after 4 innings due to lightning.  The lightning played havoc in the late games causing the start times to be pushed from 8:30 to 8:45pm.  The Pirates came into Fridays game at and even 3 and 3 and were looking to knock off the 1st place Hobos.  The Bucs came out blazing putting up a 5 spot off the Hobo starter, but couldn't contain the Hobo bats and succumbed to 11 - 7 defeat.  In a battle for 2nd place the Yankees took on the red-hot Red Sox winners of 4 in a row.  The Yanks jumped out to a 5 - 3 lead, then fell behind 9 - 5 only to take a 10 - 9 lead into the bottom of the 6th when the Sox came back to take the game 11 - 10.  The Red Sox got homers from Mark Caron, Adam Smith and Darcy Osipenko which helped pace the Sox to their 5th win in a row.

Firsts were the theme of the night.
There was a 1st win and 1st loss on this Sunday night.  In the early games Sunday, the Yankees evened up their season series with the Hobos with a 6 - 3 win, handing the Hobos their 1st loss of the season.  In the other early game the Cardinals won their first game of the season on the strength of Jay Hodgson's Grand Slam and his mound presence.  The homerun was Hodgson's first of the season pacing the Cards to the 13 - 5 win over the Indians.  In the late games, the Tigers avenged and earlier season loss to the Cubbies with an 11 - 4 win while the Red Sox won their 3rd in a row with a 21 - 3 thrashing of the X-Men.  Dave Millar hit his 1st homer of the season in a losing cause for the X-Men.

Bombs and Comebacks.
As the tag line says, it was a night for bombs and comebacks.  The Hobos stayed unbeaten with a tight 10 - 9 victory over the Yankees in the early game played at Nelson.  The Yankees put up a 6 spot in the 1st but couldn't hang on as the Hobos bats were booming as 4 'BO's went yard.  Mike Bennett hit his 2nd home run in as many games while Miles Fleming, Craig Frohlick and 2004 HR Champ Colin Lalonde each hit their first of the season.  The Yanks had the bases loaded in the bottom of the 7th but couldn't bring the tying run across.  In the other early game the Pirates and X-Men battled all night but in the end the Bucs pulled out the 14 - 13 win over the X-Men.  The comebacks came in the late games as first the Tigers battled back after being down 8 - 3 to the Cards to take a 9 - 8 win and stay unbeaten in their 2 games, while the Indians were down 8 - 0 to the Cubs going into their half of the 7th when they caught lightning in the half inning and put up a valiant effort and stormed back to tie the game at 8 prior to curfew being called.  To quote Tim Szilagyi, injured Cubs pitcher, "Norm, never take the bats off the fence, it is bad baseball luck" and with that we'll leave it at that.  The BVB continues with a full slate of Sunday games.

BVB loses a friend...

PaulieIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and teammate Paul Depodesta.  ‘Pauley’ or ‘D’ as he was fondly referred to by his teammates was a fighter to the end, playing his last round of golf a mere 6 weeks ago.  Paul played a combined 20 years in both the Lakeshore League and the BVB.  Paul had some of his brightest moments during his BVB days, competing in 2 National Championships and numerous All-star games.  His personal highlight was starting over 125 straight games for his team the HOBOS.

Paul leaves behind his wife Cindy, sons Shane, Nathan and Dylan as well as other family & friends.  Pauley we will miss you and think of you always, especially on game nights.

"Save us all a spot in the Lineup Kid"… Until we meet again...

BVB Regular Season begins.
It was doubtful that the season would start as the clouds formed and the rain fell, but the baseball gods were looking down on the parks in Burlington and baseball was played.  In the first game at Nelson the Pirates spotted the Yankees a 5 spot in the 1st inning and never did recover as the Yanks cruised to a 7-1 win.  In the late game it was the same for the Red Sox as they also gave up 5 first inning runs and came close but fell to the Hobos by a 9-8 score.  In the early game played at Millcroft, the Indians took on the expansion Cardinals and with their bats they pounded out 14 runs to defeat the Cards 14-8.  The Indians have already equaled their win totals from 2003 and 2004 with this 1st victory of the season.  In the late game the X-Men defeated the Cubs, but no score was reported at press time.

Exhibition games played
The BVB opened the 2005 season with a bang and a bump.  Two new teams took the field for their first BVB action and came away with a win and a loss.  The Tigers defeated the Indians while the Cardinals dropped a decision to the Cubs  The Red Sox took on the X-Men and defeated them while the defending Legends Champ Pirates defeated the Hobos.  The Yankees game was cancelled due to lack of players on their part.  After the games the teams enjoyed some baseball banter and long winter stories at Mainway Sports and Game Center as the league hosted the 2005 league Kick-off Party.  Thanks to Mainway Sports for hosting the event for the 6th consecutive season.  The real fun begins this Friday with a full slat of games.  Check the schedule to see where your favorite team is playing.  See you at the yard.

BVB re-jigs schedule after debate and park allocation.
The BVB executive and it's coaches met last evening to hash over loose ends prior to the start of the BVB season and the schedule was top of mind for most teams.  With more Tuesday games this season some teams had problems recruiting players due to the commitment level needed to play a full 20 game schedule, but after receiving extra Friday night parks from the City of Burlington earlier in the week, the schedule was looked over and re-worked to reduce the number of Tuesday games and get back to the weekend style league.  The 'revised' 2005 schedule will available soon.

The Regular season ends on Sunday August 14th...

BVB announces 9 team league
The BVB is pleased to announce that the league has grown to 9 teams for the 2005 season.  After announcing the league was down to 7 teams with the departure of the Thunderbirds, the league did an extensive search for ball players in the Burlington area.  President Jim Hambrook announced the addition of the Cardinals and the Tigers at an executive meeting tonight.  "With the hard work the executive through word of mouth, newspaper ads and our league website we have secured 2 new teams for the 2005 season.  This only makes the league as a whole better and we as a league are looking forward to new blood within the league."

Look for the new BVB teams to be added to the website soon.

BVB determined to stay steady at 8 teams
The main focus of the BVB meeting was to determine the feasibility of adding an expansion team for the upcoming 2005 season.  The league has appointed a Player rep for the expansion team and will have to attain league checkpoint dates to determine whether or not a team can be successfully added to the loop.

BVB Executive plan 2005 Season
The BVB Executive will be meeting this coming Tuesday (Feb. 22) to discuss the go forward plan for the BVB 2005 Season.  This off-season has seen a rise in players looking for a baseball home and this gives the league a big boost in being able to add an 8th team to fill the void left by the T-Bird departure and balance the league and schedule.  The league will also be hosting the 2nd annual London / Burlington baseball tourney in July and will also be looking to send a 44+ Vintage team to the Nationals to be held in Tillsonburg in August.  The re-birth of the All-Star Game after a 2 year hiatus will once again be a prominent date on the BVB Schedule.  Stay tuned for future updates as the season draws closer.
