On Sat. July 10th, B.V.B. held its 4th annual League Golf tournament at Carlisle Golf and Country Club. A combination of great weather and participation by members and friends of B.V.B. made this day a tremendous success!

This tournament is a chance for all members and friends to enjoy a great day of golf, food, drinks and prizes and contribute to the future of both the Club program and that of the Travel program (49ers); as all are aware at the end of the Month B.V.B will send 2 teams to represent the league at the Canadian Nationals in Vancouver B.C. (35+ Black 49ers) (44+ Grey 49ers)

If we can carry over the success of this day to the Nationals out West and the conclusion of the B.V.B season than one can only suggest that all buckle up as we will be in for a hell of a ride!!

A big thanks to Golf chair Jason Riesberry (Tigers), Terry Wilkinson (Marauders), Jay Lack (Hobos), Steve Austin (Tigers), Jason Saker (Cardinals) and there tireless group of volunteers who spent months collecting prizes, and sponsorships and ensured that every detail was looked after on game day. And last but certainly not least the Sponsors, whose tremendous generosity and ongoing support have assisted on leaving a mark on the present and future success of our great league.

Good luck to all Teams in the second half and Good luck to the 49ers in the quest for National Gold!

Our 4th Annual BVB Golf Day is set for Saturday July 10th, once again at Carlisle Golf and Country Club. The cost this year is $150.00 and includes your round of golf, cart, lunch, dinner, prize pack and door prizes. Once again we will be holding our Silent Auction during the evening, and as in past years, we promise to have many great deals available!! Dinner only tickets are also available at a cost of $40.00. Your BVB Golf Committee will accept cash or cheque payable to BVB as payment.

The 2010 BVB Golf Committee will be approaching all teams/players in the next couple of weeks asking for your involvement and participation. We are expecting to sell out this event so be sure to purchase your tickets early.

This event benefits all members of the BVB, not strictly our BVB Nationals program. This past year we have seen an increase in our park costs, the funds raised from the event last year helped offset this increase. This event is truly for all BVB members!!

This event does not just happen over night, we need your support. Please consider sponsoring, donating silent auction items or door prizes. If you are in a position to help, the BVB Golf Committee is available to assist you make this happen. With the support of our entire league body, we can truly make this another great BVB event.

The golf committee will see you at the ball park, and please, if you have any questions regarding how you can help, please do not hesitate to contact any of us along way.

It is with great sadness that Paul (Siv) Carruthers, the current president of the CNOBF, has passed away. Paul participated in his last National tournament this past August, in Yarmouth N.S.

Burlington’s Grey 49ers battled his Rockers from Duffern Simcoe but, were unable to take the big prize from the big man’s clutches. A noted long time Vintage player stated to me at the conclusion of the game “That I knew you guys really wanted it and deserved it as much as anyone…..but my heart was with Paul….you will have other chances …he won’t.”  Unfortunately, his words wring true.  Paul was a big part of the National tournament and this will be a special year to honor such a fine gentleman. We at Burlington Vintage Baseball tip our hats to you Paul in acknowledgement of your sportsmanship and dedication to the great game of baseball.  You will be missed.

Glad to say to everyone that our regular season is underway, unfortunately though, as most are probably aware, the weather has not cooperated and we already have 4 make up games to reschedule.

With thanks to Jay Hodgson, who has been kept very busy, he has arranged some new dates and times.

As we discussed at a previous coaches meeting, please be aware that with our increase in teams and an increase in games for the regular season, make up games may have to be played on non-traditional BVB nights and some different time slots. The board recognizes this and will do our best to give all teams as much notice as possible. All updates will also be posted on the main website – as well as the main schedule page.

Please advise the following rainouts/rescheduled.

BVB friends and colleagues:

I'd like to ask you to consider a fun way to lend your support to a cause that has become somewhat of a springtime tradition.

Sam's Day is an awareness and fundraising family fun event that we conceived 6 years ago, when our youngest son Sam was diagnosed with a rare and deadly form of childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma.

Sam's recovery from his cancer is a blessing, but the mortality rate for neuroblastoma is still alarming. With the support of friends, family, and community, past Sam's Day events have raised over $180,000 for the James Fund at Sick Kids' Hospital which supports leading edge investigation of neuroblastoma treatment therapies by researchers.

This year, Sam's Day Rock 'n Bowl will be held on Saturday June 5, at Prime Time Bowl in Burlington. There are plenty of ways to get involved- please see the links to the Sam’s Day webpage as well as the BVB website page- but I'd especially like to challenge each of the BVB teams to trade in their spikes for bowling shoes for a day!

With the season fast approaching, everyone is anxious to map out their summer baseball "availability" I am sure. The League has now posted the official 2010 schedule. With the addition of two new teams this year (Braves & Yankees), the schedule format has changed to accommodate. The start of the 2010 season will not provide official exhibition games like in previous years. Instead, 22 regular season games have been provided. The format of the play-offs will also be modified, with regular season seeds 1 thru 8 moving on to the quarter/semi's/final series. The 9 thru 12 season teams will play in a consolation round.

The League site will continue to be updated throughout the approaching weeks as well as the individual team sites. If anyone wishes to provide content or suggestions, please contact the BVB Board.

Please have a great and safe season in 2010 in the BVB. We will see you all out at the yard!

The start of 2010 brought another successful BVB Bat Fair with many of our local baseball vendors in attendance at the Crossbar & Grill (The Wave) on Saturday April 10th. We would like to thank all those BVB Members who attended and supported our efforts as well as a special thanks to the Suppliers/Vendors who attended with many great products and deals. We look forward to continuing to provide outlets and opportunities to our members in this fashion for it shows the strength and abilities of the BVB.
